This is classed as a 3* hotel but in many ways was as good as some 4* places. The views from bar and restaurant, the cleanliness, the breakfast buffet, the lovely outdoor pool and seating and the room itself were all excellent, as were the members of staff.
The town of Mahon is delightful to walk around, and the whole island is beautiful.
Where the hotel was let down included:
1. Location. Only 10 – 15 minutes to walk to start of the main shopping area, but quite a way from restaurants and bars for an evening out.
2. Noise. Rooms near the lifts would be impossible, and even far down a corridor I could hear the mechanism all night. Also, the hotel is opposite a port area where cruisers stop and their air conditioning runs most of the time.
3. Evening meal. It was acceptable but mixed, with a very poor choice of sweet (acidic yoghurt, fruit salad the same as breakfast or ice cream or an occasional pastry), and quite expensive at 15euros with no drink included.
4. No tea tray (but I took a travel kettle and teabags and was fine as I bought and kept milk in the minibar!)
