Relaxation

If you fancy blowing some of the kids' inheritance, you couldn't do it in much finer style than to climb aboard the Hotel Bristol in Salzburg.

This is a Five star hotel which sits in the centre of the city as grandly and full of self-importance as any ocean going liner.

If location, location, location is the be all and end all, then for a back garden it has the Mirabel Palace Gardens, an exquisite oasis of formal and structured flower beds in lawns, punctuated by illuminated water fountains and covered walkways. The scent of the roses in the evening is an olfactory delight whilst for an aural treat, there are occasional free band concerts in the evening.

It is only a five minute walk over the River Salzach to reach the old part of Salzburg with it's ancient streets, pretty alleyways and squares.

The front aspect of this imposing edifice is complemented by a small park, which features a quiet outdoor cafe at which to relax in the sunshine.

The original building dates back to 1619 but has been extensively rebuilt and renovated several times since then, the latest major work being at the end of the 19th century.

It is privately owned and has been so for the past seventy-five years.

Family values are the watchword and both the exterior and interior of the hotel are equally as impressive.

Gilt and swags abound throughout the hotel, as do chandeliers, particularly in the mirror-ceilinged breakfast room.

The bedrooms have high ceilings and are spacious, some with small juliet balconies to the front.

The multi-mirrored modern bathrooms dazzle the senses with never ending reflections.

The ground floor restaurant is formal but friendly, with smiling and friendly staff eager to please. High quality food is served here, much of it local and seasonal. The munu varies daily.

There are 60 rooms, all with antique furniture, yet have satellite flat-screen tvs, air conditioning and free wi-fi.

The hotel bar is a plush and very comfortably furnished retreat in which to unwind at the end of the day.

The Hotel Bristol is by no means cheap but has five star service to match it's prices.
