We went two streets up from the tourist street, and found the true Italy, we walked along this street where the locals talked, walked and shopped, it truly gave us the feel of the place far better than the main drag, there are lots of little fish shops selling fresh caught fish, shellfish and the rest, all on display out front, local bakers making your mouth water, the butchers display was an advert for the good meat that they sell, all in all I can recommend taking a stroll and savouring everything you see.
We went into the Hosteria Toledo (we were the first people) we did not have any problem explaining what we wanted, the home made food was amazing, check out the wine list, right at the bottom of the reds is what I thought was a glass of wine at 8 euros, what I got was a bottle, it was really good local wine, I only wish I could have finished it, (I was the only one drinking) we were very touched and surprised when the lady gave us a sample of the tapas that she was bringing up from the kitchen and laying out ready for lunch service.
I think the owner was a well known boxer once upon a time as there were quite a number of pictures on the wall among the family snaps etc, take time to look around at the photos as they tell you the history of the family and restaurant.
All in all if we every go back it will be the place I head for, this time I will not eat so much breakfast so I can truly tuck into and enjoy the tapas.
