The setting of Homewood Park Hotel & Spa is in the beautiful county of Somerset, the countryside looked stunning on a warm April day, we were 6 miles from Bath but the hotel is secluded just outside of the village of Hinton Charterhouse. A very attractive Georgian building set in stunning grounds all immaculately kept. We were booked in for just one night, together with 4 old friends, a kind of reunion which now takes place every year as the first one was so successful. We each take turns in finding and booking the venue, it was our turn this time, quite a responsibility! We wanted a relaxing hotel with a decent restaurant and good food. Homewood definitely fitted the brief, the Spa was an added bonus. The cozy Country House feel was evident as soon as we walked through the door, it almost felt like an old friend, I loved it the minute I saw it. All the staff were very friendly but also extremely professional, nothing was too much trouble.
We had afternoon tea in the gorgeous garden, and afterwards went to see what the Spa was like. I was a bit dubious as I had read that the swimming pool was outdoors, although heated to 28 degrees, I have never swam in an outdoor pool in the UK in April before but this was wonderful, just like warm bath water, we spent time in each of the spa facilities, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room, all immaculate, it was a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours before dinner.
Dinner was excellent, the awards that have been won by the restaurant are very well deserved, we couldn't fault the food or the service. It was a lovely evening. Breakfast the next morning was equally as good.
There are 25 bedrooms at Homewood Park, all classically furnished with extremely comfortable beds, windows that actually opened and views of the surrounding hills. Definitely one that I hope we will be able to return to. We said our goodbyes until the next reunion, then had a pleasurable walk along the tow path of the Kennet and Avon Canal before heading home, a very pleasant short stay and a hotel to remember.
