This HIX is adjacent Junction 5 of the M74 and, although that junction is undergoing extensive roadworks, that work didn’t impact on our stay.
Reception was efficient and pleasant and service in the restaurant was good. Usual HIX bedroom facilities with double bed (choice of hard/soft pillows) and settee (some HIX rooms have wider bed, but no settee for conversion into an additional bed if required).
Usual bathroom facility including good size walk-in shower.
Plenty of free parking at front and behind the hotel.
Dinner and breakfast as expected for a HIX and perfectly acceptable for us for a one-night stay. Anyone looking for something different could pop into the Toby carvery next door.
The WiFi connection procedure using ‘bitbuzz’ only worked on one tablet – the option of registering on the other just wasn’t presented – and I don’t like having to give my name and email address to third-parties for this type of service in any hotel – this being my only gripe for the stay.
Although the address is ‘Motherwell’ it’s a drive into town and probably as close to Hamilton than it is to Motherwell – but as we wanted somewhere handy to the motorway before heading elsewhere in the morning, it suited us fine. Also obviously suited the many athletes who were staying there for an international triathlon in Strathclyde Park over the weekend.
I don’t normally give a mark for suitability for disabled as I don’t consider myself qualified to judge – but the triathlon athletes were mainly paraplegic and seemed to cope fine – one even taking a tandem bike into the lift to get to an upstairs bedroom! I guess the downstairs rooms were all taken by other competitors.
