Relaxation/Wellness

This was our second week of a 2 week holiday to Barbados at Christmas and as mentioned in a previous review availability was limited. Having stayed at the Hilton many years ago we decided to return and use as a base and explore the island, knowing that its a big impersonal hotel not your stereotypical Caribbean idyll.

We had breakfast included, unfortunately due to social distancing imposed which felt extreme there are limited tables which resulted in a lengthy wait for a table each morning. The lighthouse buffet restaurant isn’t big enough for the size of the hotel and with added restrictions it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Food was ok, but I wouldn’t recommend anything other than breakfast.

The hotel felt very tired, it was unsurprisingly very busy for a few days over xmas and whilst the staff were friendly they were overwhelmed with the amount of people in the resort. The poor bar in particular was very slow to serve food and drinks but also was dirty as people dropped litter/food and it wasn’t cleaned away.

Our room, a Premium Corner King with balcony was really spacious with bath, shower and very good facilities and one of the better rooms we’ve had whilst in the Caribbean.

There was an issue with water supply twice during our weeks stay, but we’re relaxed about that as it’s the Caribbean!

Plus point is the hotels proximity to Carlisle Bay which we walked the length of every morning and saw the racehorses go swimming along the way. There’s also Dippers Beach Bar which we ate at a couple of nights as it was more pleasant (and better value) than the hotel.

All in all, I’d recommend the hotel for a night or two stay before or after a cruise, but wouldn’t return for a longer holiday stay.
