This cosy hotel has been a favourite of ours for a few years. It's ideally placed overlooking the lake, approx. 20 minutes walk from Bowness, in one direction, and Windermere in the other. We've had a variety of rooms including a lake view room with four poster and Jacuzzi bath, a basic double and a small double. In my opinion, it's not worth paying the extra for the fancy bed and bath, but it definitely is worth paying for the lake view. Dinner and breakfast are a real highlight, both served in the elegant dining room with those lake views again. Great choices on the dinner menu and the atmosphere is very much 'restaurant' and not just 'eat and go'. Breakfast offers lots of choice too including smoked fish if you wish. There is a cosy bar for after dinner drinks and it's reasonably priced too. If you feel inclined, there is a small indoor pool to take a dip after a day's sightseeing. If you are less mobile, this may not be the place for you as the hotel is set on a very steep hill. No doubt we'll be back again this year!
