Helmsley Castle looks great from the Walled Garden, but for me, getting up close and personal to the castle doesn't do much for me. It looks good, but it’s just a ruin, so there’s not too much to see. OK there are a couple of exhibitions, and lots of wide open spaces, but not enough to keep me interested. There is a souvenir shop on site, but no tea rooms. Save your money and go to The Walled Garden instead, where you get terrific views of the castle.
