Sunday, Kirkwall, large cruise ship in port. But it’s Sunday, I’m on holiday, I’m going to have a nice Sunday lunch !
The last time we visited this hotel was during the Tall Ship Races, our ship was in port.
This time I was travelling alone, what sort of reception would I get when I arrived and asked for a table when the restaurant was so busy with visitors? I shouldn’t have worried. A table for 2 had just become available and it was cleared before I was shown to it.
Service was friendly, good and as fast as they could manage considering the number of guests that were dining. My meal arrived after a short wait and I’m pleased to say I didn’t feel rushed at all. An excellent, well cooked, Sunday lunch.
I couldn’t help notice a few impatient guests arrive, unintentionally jump the queue for a table and expect immediate service. They were dealt with very politely and tactfully without causing any embarrassment to themselves or to the other diners.
Full marks for the staff on duty. While paying, I asked if this was normal Sunday lunchtime craziness or cruise ship craziness- the answer, with a grin, was the latter.
The hotel sits on the front, across the road from the ferry terminals. Parking is available on the street.
