My stay here was unplanned. It was as a result of a car breakdown on my drive from Saskatchewan to southern Ontario. Elliot Lake is north of the highway and not a destination I had planned on visiting but it was the location of the nearest Ford dealership and, as Ford was reimbursing me for the hotel and car repairs, I was in Elliot Lake. The vehicle was still under warranty and the repair work done before I left Saskatchewan was done under the warranty.

There are not many places to stay in Elliot Lake – this hotel and a few B&Bs – and I got the last room available. I was able to obtain the CAA rate of $130 plus tax for the room which included breakfast. The receptionist was very helpful giving me a trolley for my luggage (the possessions I did not feel comfortable leaving in my vehicle on the dealership lot overnight). I parked myself in the dining room until my room was ready at 3:00 pm. The dining room is only open from 6-10 am for breakfast but it is still a nice place to sit during the day and read or check out the view of Elliot Lake from the adjoining deck. There is coffee and fruit available all day. After I checked into my room I walked down the street to a fast food place, Tim Hortons.

Although newer and looking cleaner than anywhere else I had stayed on this trip, the sound proofing is not great. I could definitely hear others’ bathrooms and hallway noise including the ice machine at the end of the hall.

There is a gym and a pool but I did not use either. I did use the business centre to check emails though.

I had a good night’s sleep despite the closet door knob falling off in the night. The room had two queen beds, nice Nutrogena products in the bathroom, an ironing board and iron, hair dryer, lots of towels, and a spare blanket and pillows.
Breakfast the next morning was good with a large selection of hot and cold items – Denver omelet, toast, yogurt, juice and coffee for me. Luckily my vehicle was fixed before check out time and I was able to get back on my way!
