Reasons for trip

Last April we decided to blow away the winter's cobwebs with a walk along Hadrian's Wall. The walk can be as easy or as difficult as you prefer, from a one day walk to taking several days, if you decide to do the whole thing. There are lots of B&Bs along the route who cater for walkers. You can even have your luggage sent on ahead of you. Or, just go 'minimalist' and carry what you need in a backpack. The route is popular with foreigners, especially Canadians. The Canadians we met had never seen a sheep before! There are lots of pubs and farm shops on route, too, with tasty home made treats. Recently, a 90 year old woman completed the trek, taking a bit longer than usual, but that's the joy of this experience, there is no time limits. I would recommend this walking holiday to any one. I think spring is the best time, as it is not too hot or cold. And spring is wonderful in this part of the world. Oh, I almost forgot, there is lots of history to be had here too. Obviously, Hadrian's Wall is Roman built and there are many museums along the route. I would also recommend joining the YMCA – it's not just for the young. I have met all age groups and nationalities this way. A Texan priest was one of the most memorable characters. I hope that this article encourages some of you to go for it. Just break your shoes in first and bring waterproofs!
