Having the most wonderful hectic time in The Galapagos we left there and headed via Quito to the Highlands of Ecuador by taxi and guide. The journey was 2 hours long and the last half hour was down a bumpy track to the middle of nowhere (or so we thought). When we arrived at Hacienda Zuleta we were greeted by wonderful staff who made the last three days of our holiday in Ecuador the most memorable. Hacienda Zuleta was the ancestral home of two ex Presidents of Ecuador and is still owned by the family. Set in the Andean mountains it is like paradise. There are walks, horse riding for all levels with horses to suit every level and before I knew it I was astride a horse that took me up into the mountains to see condors soaring above us. All that at the age of 64 never having ridden a horse before! The rooms are unbelievable, with every room having a wood burning stove that is lit at 5.00 pm and a hot water bottle put in your bed at 9.00 pm. The scenery is stunning, the staff superb and the food is amazing. I cannot recommend this hacienda enough. Stunning. Made our holiday.
