“Gusto”:https://gustorestaurants.uk.com/restaurants/york/ is a large Italian restaurant located in Little Stonegate, York with a good value set menu of 2 courses for £15.95 or 3 for £19.95.
I started with Milanese-style meatballs which arrived in a very generous portion of five. The menu said the accompanying tomato sauce was lightly spiced, but it was so light in portion size, the spice wasn’t obvious. However, the meatballs themselves were very moist and tender. Others had crispy lemon and pepper calamari and creamy rigatoni with winter veg.
For mains I had the pizza with chicken, pepperoni salsiccia, sliced red chilli, roasted red onion, and mozzarella. Unfortunately for my friend who chose the same, the chilli was very liberal and the pepperoni very spicy so it probably wasn’t the best choice to have as the only pizza on a set menu. But for me, I loved it.
The Sicilian style salmon on caponata was a light and healthy option whilst smoked haddock risotto off the main menu appeared to go down well.
The service was good, but we waited a long time between courses, and if it had just been the two us, I might have been inclined to complain. But as there was lots of chatting and catching up to be done, it didn’t really matter.
The staff were good and there was a nice lively atmosphere.
There are 18 Gusto restaurants located in the North West, Yorkshire, North East, Scotland and Midlands but unfortunately, they haven’t reached London yet. However, I’m sure it won’t be too long before they do!
