Grizedale Lodge was a happy discovery at a very convenient, quiet location about two miles from the village of Hawkshead and Lake Windermere – an ideal spot from which to explore the many pleasures of the Lake District.
Richard and Deb Charley took it over some two years ago and have worked hard to create a quality, licensed B&B. From Richard’s initial warm welcome onwards, everything exceeded our expectations and contributed to a relaxing stay. Deb is the ‘chef’ and her excellent breakfast choices include ‘whiskey porridge’ – what a way to start the day! She also provides an impressive dinner menu if required and there is a selection of decent wines at a very reasonable price. The bedrooms are en suite, with TVs and the sitting room and terrace provide comfortable space to relax at the end of the day.
The house is on the edge of Grizedale Forest, which is a centre for walkers and bikers and the Forestry Commission organizes a programme of events from their nearby facilities there. This is also an ideal base for a less strenuous series of trips by car to the best known areas of the Lake District, such as the homes of William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter as well as the scenic lakes ands mountains.
