Reasons for trip

Personal / family celebration

My daughters and I rented four rooms for two nights. Two of us had filthy toilets which had not been flushed!!! My room had not been dusted for weeks and there was body hair on the ledge below the hand basin.

The bed was terrible. Springs felt through the mattress. Because I have a back condition I had requested another duvet to put under the sheet which they did provide.

My daughters and families were not so lucky. They had not thought to check the mattresses and were all very uncomfortable and another did not sleep due to the cold.

The rooms were freezing. A bitter wind in Norfolk that weekend which I felt through the night. I did not sleep a wink as could not get warm. One of my daughters was the same. He did not want to put the heating on.

At breakfast the only juice was orange. I politely asked the owner, who was scruffy in dirty trousers, if they had any apple juice. He shouted , “No, we haven’t” in a very aggressive way.

To add insult to injury it was expensive.

You might wonder why we stayed. Well, we had just travelled for 9 hours and were exhausted and hungry. As it was a small town where we thought everything else was booked (a family wedding) we had not choice.

However, we voted with our feet in the morning and left. It hurt to pay the bill.

Luckily we did find much better accommodation for the second night a little way out of town.
