Reasons for trip

This was our second visit to this Museum and it has had several changes since we last went. When we first visited we particularly enjoyed the zoo. This remains the highlight and it has been improved and extended. The tigers have a large enclosure and the male came running happily to his keeper for a bottle of goat’s milk. We noted several trees were marked with ribbons and asked why – apparently there is going to be a zip wire to add to the other things to do on the site. There are also meerkats, many primates, a children’s farm/zoo and a lively fossa – an animal I don’t ever remember seeing before. Other displays were very similar to our last visit including the healthquest area, herpetarium and extreme weather gallery, but I believe the dinosaurs are next on the list for “modernization”. We again went to the Omnisphere theatre and enjoyed a short 3D film about Monarch butterflies.

The two major improvements are the addition of an excellent aquarium – with talks about the penguins whilst they are being fed, a touching pool with rays and a magnificent full height aquarium. This definitely adds considerably to the entertainment and education value of the museum. The other great improvement, although more mundane, is the addition of a good coffee shop and snack bar and a much improved shop.

The entry cost was about £7 which we considered very reasonable as there was so much to see and do. The website is http://greensboroscience.org
