We have stayed at the Greenhills Country Hotel in Jersey several times, and decided to visit again this October as they e-mailed a special offer to us.
The hotel is set in the countryside in St Peter, Jersey, not far from the airport. We chose to take our car and travel by Condor hydrofoil, which was a 5 hour journey from Poole. The hotel is only about 10 minutes' drive from the quay.
We arrived on Saturday evening and were shown to the ground floor room we had requested (well actually we did not have to request it – when I asked, we had already been allocated a ground floor room as they knew it would be better for my husband). Our luggage was brought from the car to the room, and after we had unpacked we set off to find some refreshment in the hotel bar.
Upon arrival in the bar we were warmly greeted by Joe and Carmelita, the two managers and we sat down to enjoy a drink whilst we perused the menu. As it was a Saturday evening, the restaurant was busy, as it is open to non-residents and is well regarded by many of those who live in Jersey. We had a very pleasant meal, with excellent service, and then retired to our very comfortable room.
We spent our days walking, reading and revisiting our favourite places. On Sunday evening we were joined at dinner by two friends who live in Jersey. This time we were offered the "Tennerfest" menu. Tennerfest happens in Jersey and Guernesey in the autumn, and many restaurants taking part originally offered a 3 course meal for £10. The price is now higher is some establishments, and at the 4 star Greenhills the cost was £20 a head. However, the menu choices were excellent and we had a most enjoyable evening.
All in all, we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay, with excellent food, and the staff looked after us extremely well. There is even wireless network provided in all the rooms, so those of us who want to check our e-mail (or the weather forecast) are well catered for. The lower rating for guests with limited mobility is purely because at present none of the rooms has a walk-in shower. We mentioned this on departure, and Joe has promised to take this up with the owners when some of the ground floor rooms are refurbishes – watch this space.
It was time to leave for the ferry all too soon, and we left with entreaties to come back next year ringing in our ears!
