Great Comp is a lovely garden in Kent – not particularly large but very attractive and immaculately kept. In addition to the herbaceous borders and Italian garden there are areas devoted to hydrangeas and spring shrubs such as magnolias, rhododendrons and azaleas. It is also home to one of the finest collections of salvias in the country. Dyson’s Nurseries are in the same grounds and many of these lovely plants, amongst others, can be purchased here. There is a pleasant tea room in the garden though as this does not open until 11.30 am we did not have both coffee and lunch as we had planned, we just had an early lunch. As the gardens open at 11.00 am there were several disappointed people hovering around the door soon after 11.00 am. It might be better to come in the afternoon and have a cream tea!
