My friend and I have just returned from 5 nights at the Grande Hotel and were very happy and pleased with our stay. The location could not be better – right in the heart of Porto. The entrance hall evokes the 1930s (not that we were alive then), and the whole atmosphere is one of old world charm. We were welcomed very warmly on arrival by the receptionist who kindly set our phones on to WiFi and was helpful and charming, as were the other receptionists.

Our rooms were perfect. They were in the basement (but as the hotel is built on a hill they were not below ground). The bathroom was one of the best I have come across in an hotel. There was a bathtub and shower, bidet, basin and even a window. There was also an easy to operate safe and a fridge, plus ample wardrobe space. A bonus for me were the full length mirror doors on the wardrobes.

The breakfasts were varied and plentiful and were eaten in the attractive and charming dining room. There was a choice of rolls, croissants, bread, yogurts, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, cheeses, cold meats and a variety of cakes plus tea, coffee and fruit juice. It was all so delicious that I am sure my friend and I gained several pounds during our stay.

If I were to return to Porto (and I hope I do) I would definitely stay in this hotel again.
