Reasons for trip

Walking

We travelled with Saga on a week's small yacht cruise arounds the Croation islands and opted for an extension in Opatija for a further 7 days. This four star hotel was all we could have wished for – Saga guests were given a reserved table at each meal in the restaurant which meant no queuing with plates, there was a separate Saga lounge with coffee machine, fruit juices and biscuits available for exclusive use 24 hours a day. All meals were buffet style with a huge choice of dishes which were replenished quickly and usually a cook to order section used for omelettes at breakfast, fish and meats at lunch and dinner. The hotel was spotless everywhere with bright mirrored reception areas. The rooms were spacious and ours had a delightful sea view where we could see the sun rise across the sea each morning. The spa facilities were a highlight (despite the pleasure of swimming in a crystal clear turquoise sea) as the seawater pool on the 8th floor was usually empty when we used it. There was a sauna, turkish steam bath, 2 whirlpools and ice bucket douse and then an open air terrace to relax. There were quite a lot of steps down to the sea level but you could go up or downhill via the road as an alternative. This hotel was on the edge of the town so a short walk into the shopping areas but we did not find this any problem.
