We stayed in Las Vegas and took a day trip to the Grand Canyon by helicopter. In order to get to the helicopter we were picked up in a minibus from the hotel and taken to Boulder city where there is a small airport. There we had quite a long wait whilst everyone gathered for the flight. We were then taken to the Canyon by plane. Once there we transferred to a helicopter – a fabulous trip scarily close to the rocks and with a wonderful view. We also had elected to do a river trip, so once back on the ground we traversed over very rocky ground down to the landing stage – it was quite a walk in searing heat, so if you are mobile this would be difficult. Once on board the boat traveled sedately along a calm river, our ‘captain’ was Japanese and much more interested in taking our photo than steering the boat! After doing both these things we didn’t feel the need to visit the glass walkway. We ended up with the inclusive meal, which was surprisingly good, although it was more tea than lunch by the time we got it, and wonderful views from the outside tables. All in all worth the trip, although if I could have found someone to actually fly out of Vegas it would have have saved a lot of hanging about in Boulder City.
