This overnight trip was booked through a Travelzoo deal and included dinner, bed and breakfast.
We arrived late afternoon and were immediately shown to our room and offered assistance with our luggage. We stayed in the Hanson suite on the second floor overlooking the countryside. The room was spacious, scrupulously clean and well appointed with good quality toiletries and a pleasant touch of fresh milk in the mini-bar and fruit on the table. A friend had sent a birthday card for me and it was already waiting in the room.
We went down to dinner at 7.15 for 7.45 and enjoyed a leisurely drink with canapés in the comfortable library before being shown to our table. Throughout the meal, and indeed the whole stay, we received perfect service with just the right balance of attentiveness without obsequiousness. Our meal was wonderful. There was plenty of choice with fish, meat and vegetarian options. The food was delicious, well cooked and well presented.
At breakfast the next morning, there was a decent selection of cereals, croissants, fruit, preserves, fruit juices and yogurt. We also opted for the full Yorkshire breakfast and it was one of the most well cooked ‘fry-ups’ I’ve ever eaten. Absolutely no grease, hot, tasty and plentiful. Extra tea and toast came in moments as needed.
The check out process was as efficient as check-in.
We travelled as a couple for my birthday and can absolutely recommend staying at Goldsborough Hall as a treat.
There were only a couple of small negative things that did not negate from a really lovely stay overall. Firstly, the room was incredibly hot on arrival and overnight until we opened all the windows and secondly, when we arrived to breakfast at 8.25 there was no milk out for cereals. However, we also wonder whether this was because we were first down and there’s no point in having milk going off if guests haven’t appeared yet.
