Bordubet is off the beaten track. A long way off the beaten track! About 40 minutes by car from Marmaris, most of that along dusty tracks over the hills. So there are no shops, no bars, no clubs, no crowds – nothing to disturb the tranquility of this beautiful oasisof a hotel, in a sheltered, almost tropical spot.
The hotel is small- only about 35 rooms, and slightly inland, but has its own "beach club" on a small peninsula about a mile and a half away if you choose to walk along the coast track, or a few minutes by the hotel's own boat up the river and across the bay.
The gardens are lush and beautiful, and guests are free to explore the kitchen garden and even to pick the produce and take it to the chef to be cooked.
Being the only placeto eat for many miles, terms are half board and the buffet style meals are delicious and heavily orientated towards fresh, helathy produce. Lunchtime snacks can be bought in the hotel bar or at the beach club – if you haven't filled up for allday at breakfast time! The river running through the hotel is teeming with fish, turtles and ducks, and the hotels chickens and peafowl wander freely among the beautiful gardens.
The service is outstanding and the rooms spacious and comfortable. Buildingsare decorated with intricate and beautiful bird houses – the name Bordubet comes from the german for "Birds Bed", given to it by the hippy travellers who first settled there as a peacefulretreat in the 1960s.
A wonderfully relaxing place – although for the more energetic there isplenty walking and cycling to be done, not to mention swinning in the wonderful calm, warm seaand the hotel pool.
I have been there twice nowand have already booked to go back next year. And a note to Silver Travellers – at least half the guests there are "people like us" so you won't feel out of place!
