Reasons for trip

On a sunny afternoon in July we travelled down to Glynebourne with my wife's sister and her husband. On arrival the girls were able to change into their finery, the men were already in evening dress. The sun was shining and a picnic spot was quickly found in the spacious grounds. Before the performance, sparkling wine was consumed and, as this was our first time the spectacle of hundreds of people dressed as though they were going to a Ball, all sitting on the grass or at picnic tables, was an extraordinary sight, and one I will never forget. After a loud peal of bells everyone moved to the auditorium to see La Traviata. At the interval, which lasted for 80 minutes everyone went back to their picnic spots to partake of food.In this day and age it was an eye opener that all the food and wine was left without fear of it being stolen! A perfect summers evening to wine and dine in the open air. All to soon the bells went and the second half of the opera was due to commence. I have highlighted the events before and at the interval. A word on the performance which brought th house down, with sustained applause and stamping of feet at the end. A wonderful evening and one which I will remember.
