Last winter we were sent an offer for a discounted stay at the Gleneagles Hotel connected with an invitation to view Glenmor timeshare village on the estate. We accepted and visited in March. We fully expected to suffer a half day of hard sell and dubious promises about maintenance costs in exchange for three days stay at a luxury hotel.

We were wrong. Soft sell was the order of the day. Leasehold and maintenance costs were meticulously presented. The houses at Glenmor are equipped to a superb standard and maintenance and replacement furniture and equipment is managed to a strict schedule.

We were so impressed that we revisited Glenmor Sales Office the day after the presentation. After some polite, but successful, haggling we, not the agent, closed the deal to lease a two double bed roomed house for a late spring week annually until 2058. Given that we are not likely to survive for another 45 years, our two sons are nominated co-owners. Under Scottish law, there should be no inheritance tax on the property when we pass on.

At our request the purchase was done swiftly. So we were able to travel north in late April and experience our first week at Glenmor. Many of the hotel facilities are free to Glenmor owners, especially golf, the swimming pools, spa and mountain bikes. We took advantage of many of these, plus walks around the Gleneagles estate. We chose to self-cater but did not have the hassle of food shopping and transport. We sent a food order to Glenmor in advance of our stay. Tesco Direct delivered general groceries and the renowned Auchterarder butcher Simon Howie delivered superb meat to Glenmor just before our visit. Glenmor staff then stock your kitchen with your order.

Glenmor ownership is not cheap, but we think it is of excellent quality and value. We have no doubts about our purchase and are looking forward to our second stay next spring.
