We booked this through Brittany Ferries. We were wanting somewhere in the Loches area and this sounded just right for us, as it was set in the middle of the countryside just 10 minutes drive from Loches.
We knew we had hit the jackpot as soon as we arrived.
Poiré is a small hamlet of a few old stone houses plus some newly built ones on the edge of the village of Perrusson. La Roselière is the end house with lovely views across open countryside. There was no noise apart from bird song and no light pollution, so the stars were amazing.
The gîte is a delightful 1689 building which has been lovingly restored by the owners who live in the big house next door. The attractive gardens with flowers, trees and a vegetable garden are surrounded by a high stone wall and entry is through a large locked gateway.
There are quarry tiles on the floors and the lounge still has a large fireplace with the old bread oven in the back wall. The kitchen is well equipped and, most important to us, there was a washing machine. I can manage without a dish washer but not washing machine. Another bonus is the excellent shower. Upstairs are two bedrooms (double and twin). A doorway and steps from the double room leads down into the small private garden area with chairs and table for al fresco meals.
Bed linen and towels were included in the price of the rental. The electricity meter was read on arrival and departure and there was a minimal additional charge for electricity.
Perrusson has kept its bakers and butchers as well as a large supermarket and petrol station on the road to Loches, so shopping was easy. It was a good base and there is plenty to do and see in the immediate area.
COMMENT 2016:
