We stayed in this lovely mid 19th century hotel which was originally the home of Lord Gisborough during a period of lovely hot, sunny weather in July. It was easy to be transported back in time and imagine the hall as it was whilst relaxing in the elegant lounge with its antique furniture and books. There was a feeling of calm and quietness about the hotel in complete contrast to the bustle and noise of many hotels. In the evening we were able to sit on the terrace and admire the unspoilt scenery, go for a walk in the hotel grounds or dine in the restaurant which has been converted from the former billiard room. Whilst watching the present series of Downton Abbey we were reminded about the elegance of Gisborough Hall.
