Ivo Bacic and his wife are not your ordinary landlords. They are more your hosts and are the nicest, kindest people you could possibly meet. They live in a largish house set in delightful grounds and have furnished a separate Garden Cottage that they rent out. It is fitted out to a high standard (two bathrooms, one with step-in shower, lovely kitchen and living room with large screen TV, shallow but welcoming pool and shaded patio and BBQ for eating outside.)
At the time of our holiday, Ivo (a ship's chief engineer) was on holiday and so was around to look after us. He greeted us with orange juice, biscuits and cold beer and, on the last day, brought round two cold beers and told us to relax and not to bother to clean up. He drove us to the airport for a much smaller fee than any local taxi would charge, and did the same for our son who left a few days earlier. Not only that, he left mounds of fresh lemons from his own trees AND brought round chocolate cup cakes one day that his wife made, AND a bottle of win produced by his grandfather's vineyard.
Even better – when our son developed a heat reaction, he drove father and son to the hospital and waited whilst they gave the poor lad an injection so that he could bring them home again.
Everyone we met in this delightful town was friendly and welcoming, but I could not rate Ivo and his wife highly enough.
Nowhere is perfect, so note that the main bedroom has no doors (it is really an upstairs sitting room) and the small double bedroom off it is VERY hot at night. AND – there are nasty mosquitoes in Croatia.
The accommodation was rented through Dubrovnik Apartment Source.
