If you ever stay at 5* hotels, how often do they live up to the rating? In my experience very rarely. I did (only now and again) do 5* on business while working, but only had the opportunity to stay here as it was a special birthday and my wife and I were treated to it! It was the epitome of 5* and if any hotel is worth the premium price, this is it. Very briefly: Check-in superb; met with complimentary Prosecco, escorted to our 7th floor room with magnificent river views and acres of space; gorgeous birthday cake waiting – nice coffee lounge followed by marvellous dinner in prestige Quadrato Italian restaurant again with impeccable service and wine chosen by the sommelier – we had use of the pool/spa facilities next door with amazingly relaxing hydrotherapy pools. We enjoyed these on day of departure – there is a 12 noon check-out time which gives you that extra time to enjoy the visit. Above all, from first to last, service was of the very highest standard.
These aren't circles we would normally move in and with a rack rate of £300 for our de luxe room and almost £50 for food at dinner, you may think – well it SHOULD be good at that price. All I'd say is that much as I love the Cotswolds and Lake District, lots of the over-priced country hotels and spas there demand comparable prices, but are not in the same league as this wonderful hotel.
I can't think of a better hotel that I've stayed in before, nor will I in the future.
