Fort Sao bras is sited close to the main port in Ponte del garda. It is the local base for the army and has a collection of WW2 weapons and vehicles, the museum is cheap to enter and look around, it is self guided, just a couple of euros each and it gives an insight into the role the Azores played in WW2 so was an eye opener in that respect as you don’t tend to hear about it in the UK.
Opposite is a park with seating, the military band played when we were there and there was a parade which was nice to watch.
It is a shame nothing is too well advertised in the Azores, we just walked in not realising it was a museum in any case. There was nothing outside to indicate you could go in.
Close enough if you land on a cruise ship and have limited time.
