Relaxation

We wanted to go on a luxury ‘back to nature’ break with the freedom to cater for ourselves and thought Forest Holidays fitted the bill beautifully. On the website it has the option to chose 7 locations around the UK and various choices of chalets with even a treehouse on offer but this could be tricky for the less able bodied. The lodges where we visited in the Forest of Dean we well spread out some over a meadow and with a clear path for access but others were right in the middle of the wood where it was not so easy to access if you have poor mobility. Most of the lodges have hot tubs which were set to a good temperature of 37.5 and low jets that did not make you leave the seat. The hot tub was pure luxury but the covers were quite heavy for just one person to remove even though it had a cradle arm it needed two people realistically. It was also accessed down some stairs so again a steady foot would be needed. The layout of the lodge was roomy and the bedrooms spacious. We stayed in a lodge for 6 people and it had one large en suite with two double rooms. The lounge had a large TV a log burner and plenty of sofas. The kitchen had everything you could want even down to a garlic press, colander and plastic glasses for the hot tub but it was rather small for even two people let alone 6. There was an outside grill to BBQ on but bring your own coals and matches and a large dining table in and outside of your lodge. Our party was a spread of ages from 4 to 85 so we did not take advantage of all the activities on offer but we split off during the day for the younger one to enjoy the small park and the parents to enjoy the long rambles to the River Wye. Activities on offer was a climbing wall, archery, organised walks. There was a shop/cafe on the premises but it was a tad expensive and lacked the general basics so would recommend doing a big shop before you arrive and enjoy cooking under the trees. Wifi was available but again expensive and if not purchased it was impossible to access a signal in your lodge. Would recommend this experience just for the views of the trees from a beautifully furnished lodge, the getaway from it all luxury, having a hot tub that is checked everyday by the staff and the wonderful ambience of being among nature. A true relaxing break.
