Reasons for trip

Fleetwood Ferry cafe is located on the promenade by the landing point for Fleetwood to Knott-End-on-Sea ferry and RNLI (shop and boathouse). It’s an unassuming and basic cafe with excellent food and equally good views over the river Wyre estuary.

The estuary opens out to the Irish Sea. Vessels from the nearby Fleetwood marina; Jet skiers; and fishing boats (not forgetting the ferry to Knott-End) provide pleasant viewing as customers dine on arguably some of the best fish and chips in the area. Other dishes on the extensive and very reasonably priced menu, give both value for money and portion sizes to satisfy the heartiest of appetites.

For those not fortunate enough to get a sea view seat, the vista from the promenade side is equally as enjoyable. Directly opposite Ferry cafe – across the tram tracks – is Hesketh park, a small but delightfully maintained green space with floral displays. The park also provides toilet facilities – notably those for disabled persons. Although Ferry cafe has pleasant and clean toilets for those with limited mobility (and able-bodied) there are no dedicated facilities for wheelchair-users.

With level access through wide double doors, Ferry cafe welcomes wheel-chair users, mobility scooters, prams and pushchairs inside, with ample room to manoeuvre. Outside seating – both by water and with views of the trams and Hesketh park – mean that those travelling with their furry family and friends, can also enjoy the treats Ferry cafe has to offer. And those are plentiful!

There’s a dedicated ice-cream parlour by one of the entrance points with a wide selection of ice creams, lollipops, soft drinks and confectionary. By the other entrance and sporting a promenade sales window, is the dedicated ‘fish and chip’ shop providing take-away or dine-inside dishes.

Diners order their food at the counter, but service at the table is provided by extremely polite and helpful staff. Whilst jollity is encouraged, diners beware – the owner is an ex-WPCO and takes no prisoners. Get too rowdy and you could feel the long arm of the former law enforcement officer on your collar….she’s an ‘old school’ cop!

I can’t recommend Ferry cafe enough. What it may lack in aesthetics, it more than makes up for with good quality, value for money (mainly) British cuisine with ‘daily specials’ that have a more exotic flavour. Give it a go next time you’re in town. I’m 100% confident you won’t be disappointed.
