Reasons for trip

A lovely welcome after a blustery walk along the coastal path. A warming fire and good service. We chose the from the specials list. Mussels from the Teign river in a cream & white wine parsley sauce with chips or french bread. They tasted of the sea and slipped down well. For desert my partner had homemade apple crumble with custard. I had a trio of delicious Roskilly ice cream. A simple meal but perfectly acceptable. Dogs are welcomed. There is a Library of books to browse & the local paper.

The Beer battered haddock fillet with chips, mushy peas & homemade tartare sauce at £10.95 is one of our favourites. Also the local pork sausages served on a creamy spring onion mash potato and caramelised red onion gravy. The starters are tempting too with Marinarted olives with Feta, Blakes’s bread, chilli & herb oil at £3.95 or the Pan seared Cornish scallops with crisp bacon lardons, spring onions & garlic butter.

We wanted to walk along the beach at Port Wrinkle from the finnygook cafe to the harbour, so had to leave some room for manoeuvre.

The pub also has pleasant rooms to stay in and some overlook Plymouth harbour. Only £65 for a room with breakfast at this time of year. Plenty to do, especially if you are a keen walker and like the sea. An unspoilt area of Cornwall with the lovely Mount Edgecumbe park nearby. Also Maker church & parkland with deer often seen running past, picnic spots & a view of the Naval ships returning from duty or just practising out at sea and the latest Swedish built Assault craft charging about.
