Reasons for trip

Ffald-y-Brenin has become recently an international place of pilgrimage.

During my last visit at the Prayer Conference there were visitors numbered from over 13 countries.

The site of the monastery overlooks the beautiful valley below the Pressilly Hills. There is a Hermitage House for rent that sleeps 4 along with renovated individual rooms for rent. Be sure to book at least 6 months in advance to guarantee a place to stay.

Next to the main hall of residence it the lovely roundhouse monastic chapel which dates from the early 6th century.

If you don't mind not staying on site there are also 12 or more B&Bs in the local 10 mile radius where you can lay your head. All provide a 4 or 5 star service.

In addition to the accommodation there is a Arts & Crafts room with tea & coffee making facilities & supplies with tables where you can enjoy your packed lunch.

Relaxing in the Arts & Crafts room is especially a great way to enjoy the scenery and meet other visitors. There is also some lovely art displayed on the walls left by visitors to inspire others in their Christian walk. Next to this is a small chapel where daily mass and evensong services are held.

In the main building are the renovated offices and a Christian Book store. Be sure to sign in to announce your presence to the staff in the administrative office. There are no dogs/pets allowed on site.

At the end of a tree lined walk way that ends at a promontory is a standing cross where many visitors go to reflect and enjoy the scenery of the valley.

The local villages are Felindre Farhog home of The Saluation Inn & Restaurant within 6 miles distance. I found it to be a 5 star establishment with wonderful food and welcome.

Ffald-y-Brenin is within 20 minute drive from Fishgard Goodwicke Harbor and 5 miles from Newport on Sea.

This is an out of the way destination for many providing a peaceful setting for walkers and those in need of a break durning their journey.

Ffald-y-Brenin relies on donations for the use of the chapels and facilities.

I have visited 5 times to date to take advantage of the many events and arts room. I have so enjoyed my visits I try to go at least once a year.
