My wife and I were on a 10 day relaxing (ahem…see exploring archaeological remains) holiday to the beautiful, and rightly famous Blue Lagoon near Olu Deniz.
To say the scenery was breathtakingly spectacular is actually an understatement. Deep blue seas, golden sands and not forgetting the very generous, helpful locals. An image straight out of the Illiad.
One highlight was a boat journey out to an island where we were served a delicious fish dinner, and watched the most amazing sunset.
But what’s a holiday if there aren’t any Roman amphitheatres to visit!
So off we go on (a sometimes hairy) bus journey over the mountains to Fethiye and its Roman/Turkish/Greek/Phonesian ruins. The sun shone down hotly (except on my wife who preferred the company of the local ladies in the shade of a cafe) as our expert guide explained how a myriad of cultures built and clashed over this beautiful country.
Then after a couple of hours lost in time we made our way back to our hotel for a well earned swim in our hotels pool.
Turkey has its problems, like most countries these days, but don’t let that put you off visiting this beautiful, historic/culturally rich and very friendly country…..you’ll love it!
