The Faust Cellar is part of the historic cave labyrinth under the ground in the castle district. Entered via the Hilton Hotel you descend down through the remains of a 13th century Dominican cloister. Please note this is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems as there are several flights of steps to descend, and the nearest toilet facilities are back up the stairs within the hotel. This is a very intimate venue with a capacity for only around 24 people. Run by a young couple who both speak excellent English the wines on offer are from specially chosen vineyards in Hungary, most of which are very small, producing relatively low numbers of bottles, and our hosts were very knowledgeable about their producers. There is a choice of packages available but we chose the 'Curiosities of Hungary' menu which included 8 different wines (75ml). Our ninth glass was a revisit to our individual favourite. Cheese scones and sparkling water was also provided. We had a brilliant evening and spent approximately 3 hours in the cellar, even getting chatting to other tasters and we would thoroughly recommend this experience. At the current exchange rate we paid approx £22 per person, and actually bought a couple of bottles to bring home which we felt were very reasonably priced from approx £6 upwards per bottle.
