Reasons for trip

If you’ve ever seen posters advertising Hokkaido, one of them would be a beautiful photo of lavender fields. This photo is taken here at Tomita Farm, the largest such fields in Japan.

Before you enter the attraction (which is free can you believe, and the parking is free too!) – it is as if a colourful purple carpet covers the area and nearby mount. You can wander round at your leisure and feast your eyes on the splendour of nature in its full colourful glory.

There are shops, places to eat, and the lavender ice-cream comes highly recommended.

This place is not only for nature or flower lovers, it is a whole unique experience to find yourself surrounded in a floral tapestry. An experience that knows no age boundary. You can walk around or simply find a place to sit and admire the view. Most of the fields are on level ground so wheelchairs it is easy to push a wheelchair.
The best season is end of June to beginning of August. I was there around the end of July and it was the best time to see the flowers in bloom. Although Lavender is the number one attraction, there are other flowers to see too.

During the season there are coach trips you can book when in Hokkaido.

Good walking shoes and an appetite to taste that delicious ice-cream is all you need to bring with you. Remember it’s free entrance and parking, what better offer can you get.
