As one of the WAGS (wives and girlfriends) I was brought along to the Shanty Festival where my partner and his mates were booked to perform at various pubs around the town. We all stayed at a very welcoming b&b/hotel called the Broadmead and we had a lovely room with a large window looking out to sea. We were well looked after – going back there next year if the Shantymen are booked again!
Falmouth is a lovely little town with lots of interesting shops and cafes and of course pubs.
The lads sang at great pubs – The Seven Stars, The chain Locker, The Stable, Five Degrees West, the Front and the Greenbank Hotel (the Working Boat). So they were kept busy and the organisers were great and gave us all a load of Skinners Beer Tokens and Cornish Pastie tokens – What more could you want?!
Us gals collected money for the RNLI wherever they were singing. as did all the other groups there, and there were a lot, including “Betty Skinner” so a great deal of money was collected in all.
We were only there from Friday until Sunday night but wished we could have stayed longer as it is a very pleasant place with lots to do and see.
