Reasons for trip

The belief in fairies (or the little people) has always been strong in the Isle of Man. Oatmeal porridge or some bread was left out overnight for them to keep them happy along with a crock of fresh water. Upsetting them would result in bad luck… There is a whole folk lore about them.

The “Fairy Bridge”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy_Bridge_(Isle_of_Man)#/media/File:Fairy_Bridge.jpg is a small white painted bridge on the A5 which crosses the Santon Burn. It is customary to say “Hello Fairies” as you cross the bridge to ensure good luck for the day. Those travelling by bus are reminded to do so by a recorded message.

There isn’t a lot to see here and the bridge is easily missed unless you are looking out for it. It’s just a bit of fun – but do remember to say hello… just in case!
