This was one of the most impressive visits we’ve ever made. The castle dominates the city of Edinburgh and no trip there would be complete without seeing its major attraction.
The castle is fascinating not only because it is so well preserved as a fortress, but because of the wealth of Scottish military history contained in the many museums to be found within. You could really spend hours there!
A warning to those who may find walking and climbing a problem is that, being built in the top of a hill, access is not always easy, but the views from the top are worth the effort. A further warning is not to underestimate the noise of the cannon fired daily at one o’clock!
There are of course many shopping opportunities inside the castle, but if you do visit, don’t miss the whisky shop and the free tastings that help revive you for viewing the rest of the many exhibits!
