Culture / Sightseeing

I went with my son and his family for a holiday in Devon and Cornwall and we spent 3 nights at East Hook Farm Cottages. As we headed into Okehampton we felt a little disappointed as it is not a particularly pretty or quaint town. However as the GPS system led us up to East Hook we ascended a hill and when we arrived at the top the cottages were high above the town with a lovely view looking down over the valley.

There are 3 cottages, very authentic looking and we had one that used to be the farm workers cottage. Lots of chintz and ceiling beams made it fell very original and I should imagine it would be particularly cosy in the winter (they are available for hire every day of the year). Ruth Maile the proprietor was very welcoming and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. She and her two Alsation/collie cross sheepdogs often popped down from their own farm nearby to make sure we didn’t need anything. East Hook Farm Cottages are near enough to Okehampton (just a mile away) so that you can go in easily if you need something but they are also right in the country so that you can enjoy long walks in the nearby woods. Nearby is part of the Tarka walking track. It is a great base for exploring Devon and I would definitely recommend it.
