We had visited Dyrham Park, a National Trust property, some years ago and had enjoyed our time there. As we were driving along the M4 and had plenty of time we decided to visit it again and see if a second visit was equally enjoyable.

The visitor centre is conveniently situated adjacent to the car park and a bus takes you to the house – it actually drives past the front of the house and drops you at the back, close to the gardens and church. This is also the area with the café and shop. We decided to go straight into the house and look at the gardens later.

The house was built in the 17th century and you wander at your own speed with the usual helpful volunteers in each room. Outside there is extensive parkland as well as a formal garden and another garden with herbaceous borders which we enjoyed wandering along. Then back up the hill on the bus.

Overall a very pleasant second visit.
