Reasons for trip

Gozo is well worth a trip if you are visiting Malta – it’s a smaller, neighbouring island about 25 minutes away by ferry. We took a guided one-day coach tour of the island on our recent (mid December) trip and saw the capital, Victoria, a beautiful basilica Ta’ Pinu, and the Dwejra cliffs on the west of the island. We being me and my grown-up son doing his Masters – he looked really peaky at the end of this term so I took him away for some winter sun. The Azure Window (a stunning natural arch in the cliffs at Dwejra) collapsed earlier in 2017 unfortunately, but the area is still worth visiting and other natural arches are being eroded away by the sea every day! The local fishermen can take visitors out in small boat trips for 4 euros, this is well worth doing. You get to see the cliffs from the sea (boats are for 8-10 people so they are small and agile and you can go in and out of the various coves and hear all about the film crews that have filmed there for Game of Thrones etc!) I would not have missed this part of the Gozo tour as it was entertaining and very photogenic. My attempt at capturing the scene is attached! Remember that this was December. I imagine summer is a lot warmer but also a lot more crowded. Not much in the way of amenities here, or accessibility, however, you need to be prepared to walk up and down rocky path the reach the boat trip. Although you can see the cliffs from the car park. Very friendly people on Gozo and good food (local goats cheese, olives, wines and honey). Will definitely be back with husband. Malta is great value and so easy to visit, as English is widely spoken, but you still get the sense of the exotic as many place names and food etc are influenced by neighbouring mediterranean and arabic cultures.
