Dunwich Heath is a large expanse of natural heathland owned by the National Trust. In spring it is yellow with gorse. In autumn mauve with heather.
Set on the edge of long low cliffs there are views across the north sea, up the coast to Southwold with its lighthouse and south across the RSPB marshes of Minsmere to the nuclear power stations at Sizewell.
It is popular with walkers as there are a network of footpaths along the coast and inland to Eastbride and Minsmere.
There is a large car park by the old coastguard station which has a cafe and local craft shop open during the summer.
