Relaxation

A smaller hotel, refurbished from its previous owners Sunscape. We booked through BA, and chose to pay a small supplement for a room upgrade (free WiFi which I need). This gave us a lovely room, only two blocks from the beach. The upgrade rooms all seem to be in the front couple of rows, near to the beach. It also gave us access to the ‘private’ pool and jacuzzi, which was not worth using as most parents seem to use the jacuzzi as a kids’ pool.

The buffet was well organised, and there was a good choice of smaller ‘coffee shop’ type places to drop in for an early morning coffee, or a late night drink. The a la carte restaurants did not need a reservation, you just go and check in with the maitre, who gives you an alarm, which buzzes when your table is ready, so you can go and sit somewhere pleasant, anywhere in the grounds, and you are notified when to go to the restaurant. The food was good in all of them. Staff were pleasant, helpful and the hotel has a multinational clientele.
The beach was lovely as always, but walking options not so good, as on one side, some distance past the beach is closed by a security guard (we never did find out why) and along the other side the security guards from another hotel, where the beach is narrower, do try to stop you walking through – although you just go, the beaches are open to all. Not such a scrum for sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach, but not easy to find a anything around the pools after about 9am! An evening pleasure just a short walk along the beach, was the evening ‘going in’ of the sea lions from the nearby water park.

The hotel was our favourite of the three Dom Rep hotels we have stayed in, and we would certainly go back, or try another of the Dreams hotels.
