Domaine des Monedieres is a holiday complex in Meyrignac l’eglise near Correze in the Dordogne Region. This summer my family and I stayed there for 4 nights after a week in the French Alps. Our accommodation was a lodge/cabin type place and the site is set by a lake in the middle of a forest. The accommodation is quite comfortable but there were a few irritating factors (such as 2 bathrooms but only one toilet). Also the kitchen was badly planned. Cupboards were so high the jolly green giant would have had problems reaching the top shelves! There was also very little drawer space in the kitchen so all the cutlery and plates were in a cupboard right across the room in the living area.
The lake is beautiful and canoes and pedalos can be hired and there is a supervised swimming area. If you don’t fancy swimming in the lake, there are 2 swimming pools, one outside and one inside. There is also a small spa and a restaurant. Bikes can also be hired.
There are lots of walks around the area and it is quite central for visiting other towns in the area. We took a day trip to Oradour Sur Glane, which is a village where the Nazi’s, in 1944, massacred over 600 people for no apparent reason. The village has been preserved exactly as it was after the residents were killed and the buildings set on fire. There is also an underground memorial where all the people massacred are listed with their ages. Seeing whole families wiped out and one family with 7 day old twins was very poignant,
Another nice village is Uzerche, a quiet mediaeval village with turreted houses.
A nice peaceful area with a lot to see and Domaine des Monedieres is a fairly cheap well sited place to stay.
