Reasons for trip

A small local pub with a view to die for. Tables outside the pub above the beach. A rug can be borrowed for cold legs. There is a big public car park 4 mins away.

Specials on the blackboard with fresh Fowey mussels featuring daily, accompanied by very tasty beef dripping chips. There are hand-made pasties with fresh salad, or home-smoked Kingsand Bay mackerel fillets with toast & horseradish cream. Or sandwiches.

Good wholesome puddings. Sticky toffee with clotted cream. Apple & plum crumble with cinnamon ice cream etc.

Lunch menu is 12-2.30 pm and you place your order at the bar. Either after a good walk along the coast or after passing the old Pilchard buildings and delightful cottages. You may catch the navy destroyers passing by. There is plenty to look at or sit and stare and watch the waves come in.

You can drive here from Plymouth over the Brunel bridge or put your car on the Torpoint ferry. There are superb coastal views either way. It is not far from the lovely Mount Edgecumbe Park which is home to the National Camellia Collection. Films are made here for the German tv Rosamund Pilcher books.
