My husband and I have just returned from a delightful visit to Delft in the Netherlands. We are both very keen on the Dutch painters of the Golden Age, and I had read recently that there is currently an exhibition of Pieter de Hooch works showing in the Prinsenhof museum. As it was my birthday in late January we decided on the spur of the moment that we would visit, and what a good decision it was!
Delft was lovely and it was like going back in time to the Golden Age. Our hotel was in an ancient building literally next door to the museum and was extremely central. We were walking distance from all the main sights and museums including Vermeer centrum and the Oude and Nieuw kirks, as well as many restaurants, cafes and shops.
We found the Dutch people to be very friendly, helpful and courteous and were particularly impressed with the staff at KLM who were able to find us a flight after we missed our BA flight to Heathrow. We cannot praise them enough.
