I spent one night in Milton Hill House as I was visiting an elderly relative in Oxford, and wanted to stay nearby. I paid – wait for it – £19 for a room on a Sunday night, and had an very pleasant and comfortable stay.
The main building is full of character and history, and is set in acres of beautiful parkland. I had a walk around the grounds before it got dark, and loved all the huge mature trees.
The staff on reception are very friendly and helpful. Parking is easy and free. The majority of rooms are in a more modern block to the side of the hotel, but this does not detract from the enjoyment of the main site. My room was spacious, clean and warm, and there were plenty of extras of the sort not usually found in certain other budget hotel rooms!
My only gripe – and it is a very small one – is that the cleaning staff knocked on my door loudly at 9.15am. I was nearly ready to leave anyway, but I felt they could have waited until I had checked out.
There is a bar and restaurant in the main building, but I did not try these as I was on my own. There is free tea and coffee on offer at all times though. There is also a pool, gym, spa and sauna. There is free tea and coffee on offer at all times though.
