It’s difficult to know where to start in describing what Darts Farm has to offer, as there is so much. For most people who live in the area, it’s a farm shop, which specialises perhaps in the high-quality fruit and vegetables grown on their own farm at the back of the shop, and which are served in their on-site restaurants. There is much more to the shop than that however. It’s described on their website as “Selfridges Food Hall in the middle of a field” – and that is not far off the mark. There is a huge range of products, mainly from local producers, and all of the highest quality.
You can also find a delicatessen, the butchers, a fish shed, an outdoor shop, clothing gifts, toys, flowers and home items. There is even a spa so you can relax after a busy shopping session! Best of all perhaps is the drinks section with wines, beers, ciders and spirits to suit all tastes.
My wife and I visited with a group from our local U3A. We toured the site outside, the fields where the produce is grown, and even saw a hide where we could watch the local bird life. We were given a talk by one of the cider-makers and were able to sample their wares. Finally we witnessed a master-class in butchery, where one of the butchers carved half a lamb into joints, explaining how, why and wherefore as he went along. Suffice to say, we were convinced of the quality of the meat on sale in the shop, and promptly went to buy our Sunday lunch!
